8 p.m. is the last round of qualifiers for the men’s team, and by the end we’ll know who makes it to the Team and Individual Finals that will take place throughout the following week. And this will be an interesting round as Germany have not had the best time as a team over the last year despite some great gymnasts. Romania have lost their star vaulter. Russia were beaten by the Brits in Montpelier at the Europeans this year…
Flavius Koczi (ROM) – A world silver medallist on Vault in 2009, he is the current European Vault champion. With Marian Dragalescu unable to compete in London, they’ll be relying much more heavily on Koczi for Olympic medals. He’s also decent on Floor, and may be in the All-Around.
Watch out for him in: Men’s Team Final, Men’s All-Around, Men’s Vault
Philipp Boy (GER) – the 2011 European All-Around champion and the World silver medallist for the last two years, this gentleman is going to be fighting for a place on the podium. After a rough time in qualifiers in Tokyo, he came back with an incredible Horizontal Bar routine in the All-Around final jumping from being out of the medals to second place with the highest H Bar score of the day (yes, even higher than King Kohei). This man has guts and however he does in London, I’d place bets that he’ll make it exciting to watch.
Watch out for him in: Men’s Team Final, Men’s All-Around, Men’s Horizontal Bar
Fabian Hambüchen (GER) – A bronze medallist on the Horiztonal Bar at the Beijing Olympics, this guy has had a rough Quadrennium affected by illness and injury. He’s another great H bar worker, and also has the potential to make the Parallel bar finals.
Watch out for him in: Men’s Team Final, Men’s Horizontal Bar and (possibly) Parallel Bars
David Belayavskiy (RUS) – The Russian men’s team are nowhere near as dominant as they once were, however some sources believe they could be in medal contention in London. Belayavskiy will likely be Russia’s best hope for an All-Around medal and will likely be heavily reliant on him for good scores in the Team competition.
